10 May 2007 - I hadn't been to El Portal for some time and decided to stop in. If anything, the food is better than before. I was in a hurry, so it was very convenient to be in and out in 30 minutes without rushing or being rushed. Marie, server extraordinaire, remains her pleasant and efficient self doing everything in the dining area. Victor came out from the kitchen to great all of us in the dining area. What a treat!
What a great find! My visiting girlfriend and I decided to stop and try this new restaurant. Great food! Great service! Great margaritas! Make sure you try the Sopes (I have had the carne asada twice!) the're wonderful! How fortunate I am to have this new treasure near my home! Presentation of our food and home-made flair are wonderful!
I now have a new favorite Mexican restaurant. We tried it for the first time tonight and I'm glad we did. The food here is delicious. The owner Victor came to our table to see how we liked our meal and told us they make the tortillas fresh from scratch every day. The quality of the food was really good.
The restaurant isn't fancy but it's got a really good feel to it and they use cloth napkins. Prices are reasonable and you can get a meal for under $10.
We had two servers, Marie and Yaneth, and both were very friendly and really made us feel welcome.
The first time I visited this establishment, I was immediately taken by the down-to-earth owner who greeted me at the door, and led me to a seat. It's not that formal, but he was eager to serve a new customer from the beginning. I have since visited him about 3 times in 6 months -- not frequently enough to be sure -- and every visit, I've ordered a different item from the menu. The server is helpful and attending. The owner has always come to the table and inquired about my reaction to his preparation. I compliment him for his personalized effort from his recommendations to his inquiries. Please do give this one a try.
