THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT |

Before I begin, "Valley Ratings" should be complimented for initiating a valuable and unique service, such as this, to allow us (the consumer's) an opportunity to read comments from other patrons and/or share their views about a particular establishment with each individual having nothing to gain and nothing to lose!!
With that said, if anyone were to ask me what restaurant in Palm Springs comes to mind that not only stands out as an "icon" but also serves up consistantly good food, above average service and is reasonably priced, my answer would be "Billy Reed's" in North Palm Springs!
In the not too distant past, I chose Billy Reed's to entertain a group of "6" of us for a midweek luncheon. Sounds uncomplicated except that the other's all had conflicting ideas as to where we should dine! In any case, everything went well and we were all pleased with the outcome. The total tab was slightly over $90.00, which included a 17% gratuity. After reviewing the itemized bill, at a later date, I noticed that it seemed somewhat out of line. There was a charge of $10.45 for a bowl of "STRAIGHT CHILI" which, after speaking with the guest who ordered it, was incorrect since she commented that the beans (not the "sirloin cubes") in the chili were "rather chewy". Obviously, "straight" chili does not have beans! This was never conveyed to the restaurant as it was such a minor issue.
Having spent most of my working life in the hospitality industry (food & beverage management) as well as owning and operating a restaurant business, I tend to be complimentary more often than critical of food establishments. I am all too aware of the constant challenges as I am of superior guest satisfaction!!
My experiences with Billy Reed's goes back more than 25 years when two partner's opened what was nothing more than a "roadside diner/coffee shop", and it has been nothing short of inspirational to see its growth over the past quarter-century.
If recommendations are in order, I would only suggest that they might focus less on profits and operating costs and do some "guest-pleasing" menu price decreases, especially in the dinner entree,
salads and a la carte selections. If, however, their geographical location was in the heart of the city (uptown Palm Springs), I probably would not make such a statement. Their "souvenir menu" contains advertising from a multitude of local businesses. The revenue from this might be some incentive to make these necessary changes.
Overall, I really like the place but, as the title of this review reads... "there is always room for improvement". |
